Thank you so much for this website! I've found lots of useful information here--more than I've been able to put together from several other sites combined! I'm in the process of cataloging my gardens (primarily daylilies), and I've been looking for sites that show decent photos of each variety with specific descriptions, care, and other info. (This method also works well for my "shopping list," too!) Any recommendations? Thanks again for your wonderful website--I'll be visiting often!

I hope I have the patience to wait and see. I fell in love with day lillies last spring when I followed a road sign to a grower. I now have 15 different varieties and will add some more this fall when I finish some landscaping on a sunny hill in the back yard. I look foward to the new blooms everyday. Thanks again for the BEAUTIFUL pictures and the planting info. Debi from N.C.

Love the direction you are taking in your breeding program, I' sure you will come up with an award winner! I just becan breeding my own, and am bidding on your current auctions on ebay. I grow perrenials and have so for years, but are just beginning on my venture to collect and breed as many award winners as I can. I also paint and photograph my gardens here in New York. Wish I could get more information about the parentage of your seedlings, to try to produce some of mine own if they are not available on the market. Do you share that kind of information or do you sell any seedlings. I would love to come to your yard sale, but alas the location prohibits me from doing so. If you can provide me with lists of what is availble when you thin your beds perhaps I could purchase some from you.I await a response to these inquiries, I devote full time to growing and sharing my love of flowers with neighbors add friends and you add the much needed advise beginners seek on your pages in terms of care of daylillies, this invaluable information will ensure the traditions will live on far longer than us and you do a great service to others by doing this. Thanks again, Theresa

You have a fantastic site. What digital camera do you use for your photos? I like your control crossing design. I used to work in forest tree breeding and your system is very usable. Because of my forestry backgroung I grow seedling daylilies in Plastic Ray Leach Conetainers that are 1.5 inch by 8 inches deep. They are individual tubes and are in plastic trays that hold 49 per square foot. They can be removed one at the time. seedling daylilies in Ray

My grandmother had some of the first pink daylillies in Prattville, Al. She also had prize-winning irises which she traded with her friends. I'm excited to say I just purchases a red and yellow variety group and hopefully, they will grow by my canal. It's a tiny yard but I have a beautiful vison of all these daylillies blooming. Thanks for your beautiful website. I was just mesmerized by it and can't wait to see my fans bloom. Please email me if you have any tips for my area. I imagine it's similar to yours except we only have about 1 week total of "winter" temps in the 30's. I wish you did sell them. I'd love to have a variety of colors. CJ

Really enjoyed your site - got here from a link from the GardenWeb Day Lily forum. You've got some gorgeous lilies - my favorite was in your 2000 seedlings: 00-069. I really loved the halo/arrow-shaped markings combination - thought it was very unusual & very attractive. Are there other lilies with similar markings that you know of that are commercially available. I just have been getting into day lilies a little more this year & have a couple of friends who are also. I'd love to have one like this if it were available, but I don't see a trip to Houston happening anytime in my future. All of your seedlings were interesting - I'd like to have quite a few. I'll be looking forward to what you come up with in the future. Thanks for sharing. One other question: have you heard of a Day Lily called 'Mary Mary'. I've found one called 'Miss Mary Mary', but I'm not sure if it's the only one with the Mary Mary name. We have a friend we stay with in Denver named Mary. She'd seen 'Mary Mary' once, but didn't buy it & has been wishing she had ever since & has been unable to find it. We'd love to be able to find it for her. If you have heard of it please let me know. Thanks a lot, Reldon

DITTO! I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH! I am a beginner - brown thumb and all to this hobby. I got sick of living here for over 14 years in the same old house with the same old everything. Last year my hunny got tired of hearing it and in addition to rebuilding and remodeling the house we also decided it was time to re-landscape. I've spent a lot of money on lots of goodies - and only about 1/2 made it because of my garden terrorist laboradors. Anyway.... Being a newbie, i decided to try a little something I learned in 5th grade - oh so many years ago. I plucked a pretty daylily bloom and pollenated every blooming daylily for a couple of days. I just hate yellow and figured i could possibly breed it out.(i hear you all laughing at me). much to my surprise it worked and yesterday i discovered those pods were not flowers - but full of seeds which burst open. I was so excited! I actually did something cool with flowers ( and they were still alive!) The cool folks on the BHG discussion boards referred me here much to my appreciation. I have read every word here and believe now that I may actually start to become a 'lil green thumb. Your site is an invaluable wealth of knowledge and appreciated more than you know. You've answered every question I never asked except what the difference between the diploid/triploids and evergreen/semievergreens are and how to tell them apart. Thank you soooo much for sharing your expertise. Sara

Wow! I just knew I could find a site on the internet that could tell me how to propogate daylilies. I have a few Stella de Oro lilies and noticed the pods on them. I found the seeds inside and figured I could get a few more lilies by just planting the seed. Wrong. Now I know how, thanks to you. My plants have been pollinated very well by the local bees. I thought they had to be propigated by division of the tuber/rhizome or something like that. This is very exciting to me and I think I'll try to hybridize my own as well. Thank you for the information!

I'm hoping I'll now be able to see the lovely daylilies you must have on your website as I've been reading some of the messages from others who raved about the pretty pictures displayed - all I've seen are their comments and can't seem to locate how to bring up the pictures. I'm a new fan of the daylily and have absolutely fallen in love with this wonderful and beautiful flower ! My first intro into this great specie was the middle of last summer when I began to purchase a few from local growers. I now gaze out my kitchen window each morning to see if any have begun to send up a scape and look forward to my first bloom with great anticipation - guess I've caught the "fever" . . . had hoped to locate particular pictures of some named varieties that I've seen mentioned but haven't been able to do this yet. I know it's available but not in the particular magazines or books I have - there are SO MANY ! What a great hobby and I just hope they don't run us out of space - can't quit buying more and we don't have a large acreage or farm to place them. Happy daylily days to all ! mj, from Lillian, AL

I just learned about your website through a new Robin (Jean Tibbs - Lenoir City, TN) regarding your annual daylily yard sale. I'll be checking out this site quite often. It looks like it contains a lot of information that would be really helpful to me. I've been collecting daylilies about 10 years and have over 700 cultivars at the present time. I am toying with the idea of doing some hybridizing in a year or two, but need more research before I begin. Wish me luck!

You have a wonderful web site. My nine year old has a small patch for his collection of spiders. Since I became an enthusiast three years ago, my whole family enjoys my new hobby/future farm. We have about 100 cultivars from all different sources. I have been considering holding a yard sale or two myself each summer season, and you have inspired me. I wish I could attend yours. I may just have to have one of my Texan friends be my personal shopper! Thanks for the great music and hype-free info.

I'm at least as impressed by your introduction and seedlings, however. Great going! You seem to be selecting some of the same sorts of things I do, so I'll be nipping at your heels! You mentioned that you don't ship...who introduces for you? Maybe you just ship your own intros?

Have you ever had a three month old seedling put up a scape? I currently have a three month old seedling from a cross of Fooled Me x Art of Seduction that is in the process of putting up a scape. Is this very unusual or is it common ? Thank you for reading my question.

Found you by looking for "Salter" on e-Bay! Would love to know where your Elizabeth Salter daylily came from. That was my mother's name (also the name of Edgar Cayce's - the parapsychologist - mother's maiden name). Ironically, Mom died August 5 of this year, and I just found this flower! Thank you so much. I will be sure to buy some, for her.

Hi Bill, so sorry I did not get to meet you when I was in Texas in May 2000. Have really enjoyed looking at your lilies --there is no doubt you love them with a passion. Lovely presentation and photos. Home again now and busy feeding my seedlings---once the hybridising bug bites --you're a goner! Frantically digging new beds to make room for the new 'trade' acquisitions, and looking forward to getting my U.S. purchases out of their three months Quarantine. Hope you have a great bloom season --though I guess you are well past main bloom. I had 9 fabulous days with Paula and Leon Payne at "Payne's In the Grass" Pearland Texas, what truly wonderful folks. I have never felt more welcome in my life. We were flat out all the time with Shows and a Convention and Open Days. Winter here --but very mild in our subtropical climate--very like Florida. Thanks for sharing your lovely cultivars with us all. Yvonne

Hi, Bill. At 50 years of age, I received my first two bare 'root' Daylilies, ( Stella d'Oro and Siloam Merle Kent), and a new computer within the same month! I came across your web site as a result of an internet search - which was precipitated by my excitement of discovering the very beautiful, tough and versatile little 'workhorse' of a plant. It will incorporate so easily into the backbone of the 1/2 acre landscape of our new home. Your site is invaluable and I plan on eventually checking out the entire site. Although I'm a novice to Daylilies, I think all of your seedlings are very pretty but, #99-38 is absolutely gorgeous! If it ever becomes available to the public, I would like to have the opportunity to purchase one. ....Crystal Parks....

What a wonderful site to spend alot of time. I didn't get to see all and plan to go back to see more. I have always loved lilies. We had the gutter viriety behind our house and my Dad through them all away while I was gone. I think they were called "Trash Lilies". Orange. I did get a few of them when we went to the lake. Dad had taken some there. That was in'52. Now for the BIG Question. Where can I get the plants that you had on the Gallery. I would love to have some in my yard. Thanks again. Jean

Your web site is fabulous. I grew up in Richmond, Texas, where my grandmother had hundreds of daylilies on her farm in the country. When we were kids she would pay us (her grandchildren) to help her weed her flower beds before she had sales and shows. Her name was Lizzie Davis. Needless to say, my mother (Virginia) and one of her brothers (Syd Davis) grew numerous daylilies also. Syd died a year ago and I have acquired some of his daylilies. I have gotten 'hooked' and want to add many more to my yard. Susan (my wife) and I hope to come to your sale in May - please email me your address so that I can get there bright and early. Can't wait for them to start blooming this year. In the mean time, I'll keep looking at your beautiful photos. Thanks. Look forward to meeting you in May.

Thank you, Bill, for the great info. Your site was the first one i'd tapped into. Just bought my first daylilies and am excited to see how they do now. Thanks from California.

Dear Bill, It's very late & I'm very tired however this is the best time to surf the web cause my little 7 yr old is asleep & it's my turn at the computer! I'm new to computers but not new to gardening. I love daylilies & my goal is to put in a "rainbow" of them. I love your web site-I haven't finished looking at everything yet but I have to sleep__yet before I do I felt complelled to say THANK YOU to you for this site. After seeing your yard sale items I wished I lived close & not sooooo far away. I'm sure you hear that a lot. I feel like a kid in a candy store--I WANT---NO--make that NEED one of everything!!! THANKS AGAIN!!
