Late one summer, about six years after I moved into my house, I was mowing the lawn by the side of the garage when I saw what looked like daylily foliage growing in among the blades of grass. Getting my trowel, I dug the plant up. To my surprise, it had roots that looked like daylily roots, so I planted it in one of my flower beds to see what would happen.

The next spring it bloomed and was indeed a daylily. Even though it had been growing in a place that got very little direct sun, was being choked by lawn grass, and had been mowed weekly for over six years (that I know of), it still survived.

Now that's a tough plant!
